Christ's Spiritual Kingdom
A Defense of (Reformed) Amillennialism
Prof. David J. Engelsma
From the booklet: "Christ's Spiritual Kingdom:" In a series of editorials in the Standard Bearer from April 1, 1995 through December 15, 1996, Prof. David J. Engelsma presents a defense of Amillennialism against Postmillennialism.
Web Editors Note:
Part 1: In 1993 Professor David Engelsma began writing a series in the Standard Bearer under the rubric "Things which must shortly come to pass." This series was a positive treatment of the doctrine of the last things including elements taken from Matthew 24, along with other passages.
Part 2: In 1995 Professor Engelsma began a series with an editorial on "The Hope of the Saints," or the intermediate state. This was followed by another editorial, "Jewish Dreams, " which addressed the believer's hope in the second coming of Christ and the errors of Postmillennialism.
The series, thus begun, turned to the errors of postmillennialism. This part of the series has been published in book form by The Reformed Witness, Redlands, California and is available under the title:
Christ's Spiritual Kingdom,
A Defense of Reformed Amillennialism.
As the two parts are related to one another somewhat as positive and negative elements of the same truth. It was thought porfitable by the web editor to bring this material together in one place. The Reformed view, which is historically and confessionally amillennial, is also the historic Christian view of this subject since the reformers following the early church rejected "jewish" millennial ideas a fact pointed out in the editorial "Jewish Dreams."
